How a “TERRIBLE” day can turn into a GREAT ONE

I won’t talk about software development, AWS, LLMs, or agile methodologies today. Instead, I want to share how a day that seemed designed by Murphy himself turned out to be a pleasant experience, against all odds. The secret? My attitude—although, to be honest, it started more as a “no other choice” mindset.

It all began with what should have been a simple task: renewing my 10-year-old daughter’s ID card. Easy, right? Ha. We got up early, sacrificing precious vacation sleep, queued up, and waited patiently (or tried to, because my daughter was bored out of her mind). Finally, when we reached the counter, the staff member told us: “Since she’s shorter than 1.40 meters, you’ll need to bring the photo with you.” Fantastic. An hour of waiting, an early morning, and all that effort for nothing — plus, getting an appointment for this feels like winning the lottery, except you lose time instead of money.

At that moment, I had two options: unleash my fury on the system, the universe, and the poor staff member, or keep my cool. I almost chose the first. But as we left, my daughter and I started joking about the situation. “Well, at least we’ve learned that being small complicates more things than we thought,” I told her.
